My Fall Winter ’22 makeup collection is perhaps my largest everyday “capsule” ever. It was also one of my most fun ones. I didn’t realize how cohesive the color story was until I gathered them all together. Let’s dive into what made this pink, red, and mauve collection a favorite.
Base
Westman Atelier Vital Pressed Skincare Powder in Crème ($75, .17oz | 5g, not shown)
I had the compact tucked into a different place and forgot to add this daily essential into the shoot, a major fail on my part. I love this powder. If you are a no-makeup makeup person, this lightly dusted over your everyday sunscreen is the answer to perfected, natural skin. Depending on your SPF’s dewy factor, you can achieve anywhere from a glowy satin to a matte finish. On days when my skin is looking and feeling its best, it’s this over my Le Prunier Plumscreen, and that’s it.
Alima Pure Pressed Foundation with Rosehip Antioxidant Complex in Sesame ($26 refill)
A tried and true favorite and one I am never without. I have already hit pan on this first refill of mine (I completely emptied the pan before it). When used with a denser brush, I spot conceal with this powder. It gives me just the right amount of coverage, and the matte finish smooths over bumps rather than drawing attention (i.e. radiant complexion products). Plus, the large circle mirror is the one I use for applying makeup.
ROSE INC Softlight Luminous Hydrating Concealer in LX 010 ($30, .36oz | 10.8ml)
Mid-Fall, I finally caved and purchased this in their lightest shade. My skin was at its worst from insane office hours and stress, and I needed a complexion product that packed a punch (not a usual term in my makeup repertoire). I am so pleased to say that after months of use, this really does all the good things everyone says it does. Insanely high pigment payoff, with ample play time, and easily spreads across skin. These attributes don’t usually live together to describe a high-coverage product! I use the tiniest amount (a quick dab from the oversized doe-foot into my palm), which will cover my undereyes, around the nose, spot conceals, and highlights my forehead and chin if I so desire. Powdering is optional. It sets and won’t slide around, but I sometimes find it slightly too dewy, especially under the eyes. The shade match is also excellent.
Highlighter
Victoria Beckham Beauty Reflect Highlighter Stick ($42, 5g | .17oz)
Longtime subscribers know that I am not a highlighter person. It’s just not me. However, I made an exception for Victoria Beckham Beauty’s version because I completely fell head over heels for its packaging. It is everything I dreamed of in person. The fluted gold case is spectacular and just the right weight. Substantial, but overly heavy.
Furthermore, the product is better than I had hoped! My number one fear was that it would be too tacky. It’s got some weight and grip, so it stays on the skin, but the reflect is no joke. It’s too reflective for my taste, so I tend to put it underneath my base products. This gives an extra radiance, lit-from-within glow to the tops of my cheeks, inner corners of the eyes, cupid’s bow, brow bones, and down the center of my nose. I’ll powder over top with whichever powder I’m using that day.
Since I’m not a heavy-duty highlight user, I, unfortunately, don’t gravitate toward this every day. And for that reason, I’m not very pleased about its 6-month PAO. (It seems a lot of the VBB line conforms to the 6-mo PAO, making it gut-wrenching to have such a beautiful product not last you as long at the price point. (It’s the same for the Bitten Lip Tints that I absolutely adore.) I’ve yet to hit the 6-month mark, but I am curious to see if it is still useable long after.
Brows
Westman Atelier Bonne Brow Defining Pencil in Slate ($38, .01oz | .34g)
This is the only brow product I’ve been using. (I’ve hopped off the brow gel train more or less.) It gives me perfectly filled, defined brows. The dry brush helps to diffuse and subtly lift my brow hairs. It’s a natural, soft look, and I love it. It’s also long-lasting; the pigment doesn’t slide around or fade throughout the day.
Cheeks, Eyes, Lips
MOB Custom Palette (see the first photo, from top left, clockwise):
MOB Beauty Cream Clay Blush in M74 Rosewood and M91 Tulip* ($25 refill, 3.2g | .11oz)
MOB Beauty Bronzer M36* ($25 refill, 4g | .14oz, R 2021)
MOB Beauty Cake Liner in M90* ($15 refill, 1.8g | .06oz)
MOB Beauty Cream Clay Eyeshadow in M83 Lavender* ($15 refill, 1.6g | .05oz)
Let’s start with my new favorite MOB palette arrangement to date. Look at the range of pinks, reds, mauves, browns, and that pop of lavender! This brought me joy on any cold and gloomy morning.
The top row of Cream Clay Blushes should be no surprise. There will always be at least one in any of my MOB palettes. M74 Rosewood was perfect for those days when I wanted to feel a bit more grounded and in a slight grunge, moody feel. In contrast, M91 Tulip was perfect for brightening my complexion and lifting my skin and spirit. Both were used on the eyes as well. And Rosewood was incredibly gorgeous for a Fall-Winter lip.
Ah, the M36 Bronzer, my first MOB Beauty love. This is the same one I’ve had since they first sent it to me, and it’s still going strong after hitting pan long ago! MOB knows powders. Smooth, buttery, and buildable, this remains my all-in-one. Bronzer, contour, blush? Check. Plus, it’s equally stunning on the eyes.
I already wrote all about my love for the new shade of Cake Liner in Newsletter 096. I use this dry as my everyday eyeliner. If I want a deeper, richer color, I apply it wet as it is meant to be used. That will deliver a clean, crisp line every time.
Last but certainly not least in the palette is the Cream Clay Eyeshadow. You know how much I love the Cream Clay blush formula, and I’d say this has the same texture and feel but packs way more pigment. The lavender is such a beautiful shade and a surprising, unexpected choice for Fall and Winter. It feels more Spring-appropriate, but I loved it as an all-over wash of eye color during the colder months. It also pairs lovely with the rest of the palette, whether I choose a cool-toned, warm-toned, or neutral cheek.
Sale Update: MOB Beauty is having their annual Friends & Family sale, and today is the last day! 25% off everything.
Tower 28 OneLiner in Work of Art ($15, 1.14g | .04oz)
Similar to not being a highlighter person, I was also not a lip liner person. Thanks to Tower 28, now I get it. This is the best lip contour shade for me. The hue itself is an excellent match for my natural lip color, but its deeper depth provides definition. I don’t overline but line exactly along my natural lip line. I slightly fill in the outer corners of my lips and will use this with any lip color of the day: from neutral to bright red. This alone with the Westman Atelier Squeaky Lip in Nana, is a match made in heaven. But another surprise is how beautifully this pairs with the MOB Matte Lipstick in M67 (coming up below).
Of course, the main highlight of the OneLiner is that it works all over the face, and it’s true! However, there is some application adapting. This shade is described as a pinky taupe and does something very similar to the MOB bronzer. It contours while providing a neutral rose flush. The formula initially feels very waxy but blends like an absolute dream. Thanks to its inherent grip, it stays all day (color and place). On the cheeks, it works both under or over powder; the preference is up to the user. However, I found the texture too drying to apply directly from the pencil to the eyes. It drags a bit for me, so I’ll either use a denser brush to pick some up, then apply to the eyes, or use my finger instead.
On a few occasions, my eyes have felt slightly itchy when wearing this, but I attribute that to not sharpening it enough and using it across both the lips and face (meaning it might have picked up something that isn’t great for around the eyes). That’s the only trouble with its format. I don’t mind a wooden pencil, but I do feel I lose a lot of product from having to sharpen it often or having to wipe it down first to use it on the eyes—food for thought.
Victoria Beckham Beauty Bitten Lip Tint in Je T’aime ($36, .19floz | 5.7ml)
Okay, you may remember my mini-rant about this in Newsletter 095. Of course, shortly after writing that, I discovered another great use for it and have been loving it all winter. Je T’aime is a wondrously warm and bright cheek color. I’ll dab three dots on each cheek, then blend it out with a brush. Wow, the color is gorgeous! Sometimes during the dead of winter, you crave a bright but warm hue. This is it! This wears as a sheer orange-red on me with a hint of pink.
Unfortunately, it still doesn’t wear well on the lips. It’s slightly better over top of the Tower 28 OneLiner, but the color still bleeds and gathers. I hope they’ll keep this color and slightly rework the formula.
MOB Beauty Matte Lipstick M67 ($22 refill, 3g | .10oz)
This is the one item strictly used for lips (not that I don’t think it would be a gorgeous color used on the eyes and cheeks of someone with a deeper complexion). It is my ideal Christmastime red. However, Christmas is such a brief moment in the Fall and Winter schedule. And as I was nearing its 12-month PAO, I wanted to use this as much as possible for as long as possible.
The MOB Beauty Matte Lipstick formula is a favorite of mine. Its luscious texture delivers a satin matte finish without dragging or drying. On the day-to-day, I would line my lips as usual with the Tower 28, then pop this on the center of my lips as a stain. The result is stunning. Bright but not too bright, healthy, and dimensional. It became my daily lip combo for all of December and January! This also wore well past its 12-month PAO but, unfortunately, started turning around the 14-month mark. I’ve since decluttered the rest of the bullet and sent that with a few other expired MOB Beauty products to PACT for recycling.
And now for a bit of housekeeping. It’s been a while since I updated my Discount Links page, but I finally did it!
Many from today’s post are available, like Alima Pure, Le Prunier, and Westman Atelier. Also, excitingly, my new champion (affiliate) code for Wildcare is up too! Long-time favorites like Monastery and Rituel de Fille are still there as well. Please go and take a peek in case there are some new ones that might be of interest.
Thanks so much for reading. What’s been in your daily makeup bag/drawer/shelf? I’d love to know!
Also, please head over to the M A K E U P chat to let me know if you’d like any swatches of today’s makeup items; I’ll post them in real-time! (And hopefully in sunny PNW weather. Yet as I write this, it’s hailing, haha!)
As always, I hope you have a great start to your week. See you soon!
Hi Maggie
Thanks for a wonderful round-up of your makeup selections!
The WA powder and MOB matte lipstick sound lovely.
Interesting to learn that the MOB cream clay blushes can also be used on one’s eyes and lips.
And here’s hoping the VB highlighter stick outlasts its PAO, at least for a time.
Wishing you have a good week to come!
