Maggie! I love this SPF round-up post and I am very happy that the Ava Isa sunscreen is a match for you too. There has been quite a few release of this serum-like texture in the mineral sunscreen section, I love that the Ava Isa one is not dehydrating at all and feels elegant on the skin. Perfect summer SPF indeed! I agree with you on the scent too! Caramel- yes!
Speaking on satin-matte sunscreen, have you ever tried Tower 28 SPF?
Asti! I can't thank you enough for the push I needed to purchase the Ava Isa; I love it! I was always reluctant with serum sunscreens because most appear and feel too oily on the skin. It truly is an elegant feel and formula! And the camera scent is such a surprise; I'm so glad you sense it too!
I haven't tried the Tower 28 SPF. Is it satin-matte? I was/am fearful that it may be too dewy. I would also use it as my only SPF, so maybe that would cause it to be too much coverage and look heavy? Have you tried it?
I personally find the Tower 28 SPF to have a skin-like finish, not dewy but I would not call it matte either! I didn't buy it, tried it at Sephora and wore it throughout the day. It could be a potential purchase in the future when I want an all in one SPF with sheer tint. I recommend the breakdown video of the product by Michelle Wang on Youtube. She was the one that got me interested in it.
yes to SPF galore! I am obsessed with trying out different sunscreens, and even more so because you're introducing your readers (or at least, me) a bunch of brands I never heard of.
speaking of custom spf, I heard that DIY mixing different sunscreens is not recommended as it may compromise the sunscreen's capability. do you feel that side effect? just curious!
re: instagram – i still enjoy using it. i don't use it as much, neither do i post much. personally for me, i'll take and respect whatever decision you (or any other content creator that i followed) make when it comes to posting the ig content. i think it all comes back to the ig owner themselves. i, as the consumer, can only appreciate all the hard work the content creator has published.

um, this is out of today's topic, but may i know the backdrop material used to take pictures of the product's texture? i'm a big fan of your photos, and i've been trying to find better ways to take photos for my own newsletter. i hope it's not offensive to ask this (since i know photographers have their own secrets). i'm just looking for a direction from actual pros on which background is usually recommended (i wonder if PVC is okay?)
anyway, thanks for this newsletter! i've loved your content ever since i stumbled upon tender forms, but anything about spf is definitely an auto-fave of mine <3
Yes, another fellow SPF enthusiast! And I'm so glad I could introduce some new brands!
I've heard that too, but I haven't experienced any issues or side effects (no irritation, sunburn, or extra sunspots)! My preferred sunscreens also are minimal in their formulas; there's no "skincare" in them like niacinamide, vitamic Cs, etc. I think maybe when the formulas are more complex, that's when the efficacy may be diminished/compromised? I'm also pretty cautious when in the sun. I'll reapply sunscreen or wear a hat to cover my face. Or both!
Re: Instagram. It's lovely to hear you're okay with whatever the content creator decides! I'm not at all consistent with my posting, but I go through phases where I'll post many photos and videos.
Re: Backdrops. Totally okay to ask! I use what I can find around the house! I've shot product texture on plates, paper, and my hands, haha! Watercolor paper has been a favorite, although it's a little tricky depending on the formula you're shooting (if heavy with oils, the paper tends to absorb it, but thicker creams and gels work, and, of course, powder pigments work beautifully). I think PVC could work great too!
Thanks so much for reading and taking the time to comment, Élise. Glad to have you here!
