052. A Year of Newsletters, A Week of GRWMs, A Weekend of Action
The newsletter turns one, a brand new YouTube video, and all the action movies I watched in a weekend.
Hi, I’m Maggie and welcome to Tender Forms Off-Camera: a weekly newsletter about slow beauty and slow living. Links in this newsletter may include affiliate links or discount referrals. If you enjoy and would like to support this newsletter, click the button below or shop through my links! No pressure but thank you if you do.
It is with my utmost pleasure that I can finally declare two things:
The newsletter is 1 year old today!
I’ve hit 1 year goal of weekly newsletters.
This means there are 52 consecutive entries in the archive now. Doing a full year of weekly newsletters was always my intention when starting Tender Forms Off-Camera. My organizational self craved a place where I could gather all things Tender Forms from my YouTube to Instagram, with additional topics delivered to you in a way that felt personal.
My original thought was that the newsletter could be more informal, and photography would be secondary to the writing. Of course, my ambitious self ended up turning the newsletter into something I never imagined it would be. A challenge to create the same content you’ve grown to love weekly. Some of my favorite shots from the past year are from the newsletter. And it brought back something I really loved, getting to write weekly.
But when work started to really pick up, there were many times deep in the thick of crazy office hours and stress that I second-guessed myself if a whole year was even possible. Had I signed up for too much? Lucky for me, I had a fantastic community: you!
Of course, there was no way this newsletter would have survived a year if it wasn’t for all the incredible love and support you’ve shown. I was blown away by how excited people seemed when I first announced it. And then to watch the subscribers grow was really moving. Above all, the emails I received from you mean more to me than you’ll ever know. It proved to me that this was something worth doing and that it could become what I hoped it would be and more.
A special thank you if you’ve donated to Tender Forms! Every bit counts, and I can’t convey how much of a surprise and honor it is each time there’s a donation. You’ve kept this newsletter and Tender Forms going in more ways than one.
Thank you for sticking it out with me for a whole year! And if you’re worrying that this means I’ll no longer be keeping to the weekly schedule, don’t worry. It’s become such a big part of my schedule, it would feel unjust to break such a great habit. If anything, this just means on those few weekends where I really need some full-time rest, I might skip a week here and there. But rest assured, Tender Forms Off-Camera will remain a weekly newsletter.
Speaking of YouTube, I’m overjoyed that I also get to share a new video in today’s newsletter! During the first week of March, I stuck to my morning alarm and filmed an entire workweek of Get Ready With Me’s (GRWM). My friend, Asti, inspired the video when she requested if I would show the Westman Atelier Poppet Baby Cheeks in action. But instead of one makeup look, I decided to do a week’s worth.
I am not a morning person or a professional makeup artist, so please forgive the tired looks and any unconventional makeup application. The video showcases some of my all-time favorites and most trusted makeup items. As always, all items are linked in the description box.
Here are all the rewatches and new-to-me watches I consumed last weekend. You’ll notice the action theme is strong, but so is the throwback quality!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Available on Disney+.)
I believe this is the only Marvel Universe movie we own. We purchased it back when it was first released on iTunes. I’m so happy to say this film really holds up thanks to its wonderfully choreographed action sequences and use of practical effects.
D2: The Mighty Ducks (Available on Hulu.)
I’ve never watched any of The Mighty Ducks before this year and am slowly making my way through them. So far, they’re terrific. They’re 90’s films about a hockey league of Whites, Blacks, a Jewish goalie, and a female player, from a range of rich to poor neighborhoods. They upped their game (pun intended) in D2, adding in an Asian and Latinx player. Talk about representation!
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (Available on HBO Max.)
This is one of my favorite movies to rewatch, mainly because it was played so often on cable back when I was a kid home alone trying to learn what it meant to be “cool.” Filled with equal parts of how to be an adult and hilarity. Plus, let’s take a moment to appreciate Christina Applegate’s fantastic, full, and feathery brows.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition (Available on HBO Max.)
I watched this for the first time on HBO, I want to say late last year, and thought it terrible. So terrible that I didn’t even log when I saw it or what I rated it. Last weekend, I watched the “Ultimate Edition” with Husband, and it was great. I had a similar experience with ‘Justice League.’ These Snyder cuts truly make all the difference.
Die Hard with a Vengeance (Available on Hulu.)
Husband has slowly but surely been getting me to watch all the Die Hards; I think we have one or two left (we haven’t been watching them in order). I loved this one because of the McClane and Zeus partnership. Willis and Jackson play so well off each other, and I enjoyed Jeremy Irons as the now expected European villain. It was a hoot.
Thanks so much for reading! If there are any specific items or topics you’d like me to do a newsletter on, please let me know! You can leave a comment or reply to this email directly.
As always, I hope you have a great start to your week. See you next Sunday!
